David Ball.
12" pot. In our opinion David is the most exciting banjo
builder in the business. Unfortunately, he doesn't make enough
of them, so we are only able to offer one or two a year. Every
one we get is different from the last; a unique work of art and
a wonderful musical instrument. About this one, David writes:
"I made the tonering. This one, as I mentioned earlier,
is a prototype banjo in many ways including the tonering. I
just tack soldered it and left it unplated. It's patterned after
the old TB-2 Gibson rings. I've always liked the tone of those
banjos, and the concept works really well in bigger rimmed banjos.
Kind of a Tubaphone type sound, but a little deeper and clearer
to my ear. As for the other particulars of the banjo, the rim
is Padauk. The neck is Indian Rosewood. The finish is French
polish shellac. Carbon fiber neck reinforcement, Corian nut.
The bump on the neck was inspired by the old Farris Diamond
Brand banjo." |
